Girls Bedroom Makeover | Part 01

We have so many home projects that are either in the middle and not finished or ideas that we want to get done. Let’s just say I have been in full nesting mode since the last month and the list is long. It seems like it started pretty early this pregnancy, but I am just trying to roll with it because if it means that I can be surrounded by more completed projects instead of half-finished? Well, who doesn’t love that feeling, right? I also promised the kids that before school starts in seven short weeks that we would finally have their rooms completed. Game on. And since I seem to have to approach home design and decor much like I do my work projects, I thought I would give you an inside peek to the Girls Bedroom Makeover, Part One.

The one element I have to approach methodically is marrying the two personalities of my daughters to create one shared bedroom that they can both feel comfortable in. Our Miss Blake is older, more of a tomboy, loves sparkly things, but hardly anything else when it comes to girly stuff. Miss Blair is younger and loves all things girly – pink, ruffles, bows, etc. And I also want to make sure that while their bedroom should fit their personalities, I want it to flow with the rest of our home as well.

After much deliberation and thought, the girls and I have pulled some inspiration pictures for what we want the feel of their bedroom to have. Soft greys, whites and creams with touches of soft pink as well as gold accents here and there. We want to make sure and add texture and layers for more of a cozy and eclectic feel. And they loved the idea of a large wall portrait of the two of them together as well as a reading and “hang out” corner.

And with pulling inspiration pictures I always love to make sure we have a solid color palette since it makes shopping for home decor so much easier. We don’t have to question if something will go and I use Evernote to keep each room and project organized as well as to have easy access while I am out searching and shopping.

I already have my eye on a few items of course and can’t wait to add them to the project and see how they fit in the overall design of the girls room. The gold mirror from Target is the perfect shape to add a little femininity as well as touch on those gold accents we want to add. The pillow and paper flowers are from Pottery Barn Kids and are softer touches and we have plans to DIY our own tassel garland to hang on the girls’ headboards.

As always, I will be sharing the process over on Instagram so make sure you are following along there and then I will also make sure and post updates here once we have made some really big progress. Wish me luck!
