There’s nothing quite like having a space as a creative that not only oozes inspiration, but just makes you excited to get down and dirty and get the work done. Right? I am craving that for myself. While we are still living that rental life, it won’t be as “complete” as I picture it to be in the future, but I am going to do what I can to really refine the space I have, give it some energy and style and really create that look and feel that I am dying to enjoy. Today I am sharing with you the Kara Layne & Co. Studio Makeover Part One. And just like I approach my design work, it all starts with the planning and visualizing. I’ve pulled together a handful of inspirational images and ideas that give me that industrial, rustic feel with a cozy and inspiring vibe.

And I want to make sure and incorporate my brand color palette which I think will lend itself well to that industrial/rustic type feel:
While I do want to find some unique pieces and will be incorporating things I already have, I of course have my eye on a few new pieces as well. Come on, you can’t blame a girl, let alone a creative! My current desk is this setup from Ikea. I love the size and look of it, but I think what I am going to try and do is add a rustic wood top finish to it in order to take away from the modern feel. I am need of a killer office chair and I have my on this leopard print chair from World Market. Normally I would not do leopard print in such a large piece, but I love the design of this one – much more neutral and relaxed than the traditional leopard print. The seating area will be a bit tougher only because I don’t want large pieces that will swallow the space up, but I do have my eye on this settee and coffee table.
As for smaller pieces and decor, my goal is to incorporate plenty so that the space feels “finished” while also being pieces I absolutely love and that make me feel inspired. For the coffee table I want to see a small pile of beautiful coffee table books (books like this this one, this one, and this one). Some great faux fur throw pillows for added texture and comfort, my brand tagline in these bronze letters on the dark accent wall as well as unique touches here and there to fill in gaps. Not to mention, my space is in need of some really great lighting! I am going to be getting this industrial style floor lamp from Ikea as well as finding a great orb style chandelier for the ceiling like this one.
As always, I will keep you looped in on the process because I plan on knocking this out fairly soon in the new year. A creative’s heart needs to feel fueled by surroundings and I spend a lot of time in the studio. Make sure you are following me on Instagram and I will be sure and share shopping trips, paint projects and more with the new makeover of the Kara Layne & Co. home studio!
