Living transitionally for the past three months with our impending move to Nashville, well, let’s just say it’s been quite the adventure. While we have not been able to control everything, we have tried to maintain aspects of our normal routine as much as possible for the sake of normalcy. For Brooks, this has been his bedtime routine. A soak in the tub, our traditional “baby massage”, bedtime story, family prayer and kisses goodnight. And thank goodness to Burt’s Bees for supporting efforts in motherhood, you know? This brand has been a long-standing tradition in our home for over a decade, and their all-new Burt’s Bees Baby® Foaming Shampoo & Wash and Burt’s Bees Baby® Ultra Gentle Lotion is the bee’s knees. See what I did there – wink! I wanted to make sure and share with you the experience we have had in our home and the benefits of a bedtime routine.
Oh, and before I get started! For my deal-loving mamas, you can earn up to $1.50 cash back on Burt’s Bees® Baby Sensitive products with the free Ibotta® app.
Anyway, back to the bedtime routine that has done wonders for us over the last few months especially…
As soon as dinner cleanup is finished, Brooks high tails it to the bathtub—ready for his favorite part of the day. I mean, after playing with your older siblings all day and with the increasing temperatures here in the Phoenix desert, who can blame him? A babe could use a good, long soak to wash off the day. He’s at the age where he loves helping to get the job done, so while he loves the foam aspect of the Foaming Shampoo & Wash because he can get a good lather going in his hair all by himself, I love the fact that it’s gentle on his skin. It actually has the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance™, which I loved knowing! (He has sensitive skin, like his oldest sister, and trying new products can be hard sometimes).
After bath time, we pile on our bed for our family’s tradition of a “baby massage.” I have been doing these with each of my cubs since they were born, and I love the bonding time it gives us. Lately, I have been using the Ultra Gentle Lotion for this and I have truly loved the difference it has made. When used as a regimen, Burt’s Bees Baby® Sensitive line helps baby rest peacefully and improves quality of life by reducing dry skin that may cause irritation. Do you know when it comes to lotions, how you get one kind or the other? Some are watered down and feel like they aren’t even hydrating while others are so thick that it never seems to soak into the skin. The Ultra Gentle Lotion is right in that sweet spot of being just the right amount of moisturizing while absorbing quickly. Which means I can still get Brooks into his pajamas right after without too much trouble—ha! I also love that it is fragrance-free.
For my Walmart shopping friends, you can now find the Foaming Shampoo & Wash and the Ultra Gentle Lotion in the baby section.
Once we have Brooks rubbed down, we get everyone into pajamas and dive into the next chapter of our current book. I shared about our favorite reads for the little ones and right now, we are working through Winnie the Pooh from the classic line that Barnes and Noble carries. I adore that the older kids join in, and Brooks giggles in delight as each of them take turns reading in different voices acting out the characters. We then gather for family prayer, and Brooks then heads to bed after giving everyone a kiss goodnight.
Bedtime routines can be exhausting and by the time I have laid him in bed and turned out the light, I feel like I am usually ready for bed, too, but a solid bedtime routine is so important for the little ones of the family. I have noticed fewer sleep issues in our home, and I love that the entire routine really helps my children relax before closing their eyes—which helps them to get a solid night of sleep and re-energize for the next day. I have truly noticed the difference between the times that we make it happen and the nights that we may be behind schedule or not home to do every part of it.
Brooks absolutely sleeps better when we follow the same routine nightly, and I love that it gives me quality time with the kids after a long day of juggling business and homeschooling. Nothing beats ending long days like that.
Don’t forget to earn money back when you use the Ibotta app, and make sure to add the Foaming Shampoo & Wash as well as the Ultra Gentle Lotion to your next Walmart order—you can thank me later.
Do you have a unique tradition or favorite part of your own family bedtime routine?
