My dearest Blake,
We have had ten sweet years together, darling. Ten years filled with wonderful memories, moments that have made us giggle so hard that our sides hurt as well as some rough patches. I have stories upon stories of moments that you have struggled through when it comes to putting yourself out there. You are my shy creative one, but something has changed in you over the past year or so.
You came home often this past school year telling me about stories from school, good times with your friends and you would tell me about something funny you said or did that made your friends laugh. As you would recount the story, we would both laugh and I remember one time I jokingly elbowed you gently in the side and said, “You little weirdo”. You looked at me with the biggest smile and replied with, “Good. I like being weird.”
I remember being caught off guard just for a moment and then my heart swelled with pride. You want to know why?
Because you get it. You are getting it. It takes all kinds and people would be so much happier if they just were who they were and accepted others for the same. And here you are, my shy creative one, boldly allowing yourself the freedom to do just that and brushing off any criticism with the confidence that many people struggle to find. Hold tight to that strength and never let it dwindle because life will be the most beautiful and wonderful experience when you leave out other’s opinions of you. Don’t invite them in. Ever. And continue to be you in the boldest and most artistic way. Because the world needs that kind of energy and those around you will soak it up and feel inspired.
Thank you for always inspiring me, my sweet Blake. Never forget who you really are and never underestimate the power you have inside of you. We love you so very much.
With all of me and more,
Mom
