Report after report. Statistic after statistic. More and more is coming to light about how sick America is and all that is causing it. Not to mention, those benefitting from it. One of the biggest culprits of the story are the chemicals and toxins we have in our home – from beauty products to cleaning supplies. I have started to share more and more about our journey to a cleaner and healthier lifestyle, both to remedy health issues and concerns happening now as well as to ensure a healthy lifestyle is engrained in our children to carry on with their families (you can get it all in one place right here). Today I thought I would share how we are making our home safer with non-toxic cleaning solutions.

While adjusting our lifestyle and what we are used to can seem like climbing Everest, I am so grateful for companies out there who are working hard to make it possible. Is it realistic to think that I can start making everything from scratch? Absolutely not. What I can do though is support those companies who are making it possible. Not to mention, I would much rather spend our hard-earned money on wholesome and beneficial products and goods rather than doctor’s appointments and prescriptions if we can help it.

So, how exactly are we making our home safer with non-toxic cleaning solutions? Earlier this year when we decided to really overhaul a lot of things for our family, I started doing some digging on products out in the market that was available to help us with this goal of a cleaner and healthier lifestyle. One that kept coming back up, again and again, was Young Living. Now, I knew them as an essential oil company. While my interest was peaking with the idea of essential oils and the benefits they could bring to our family and home, it was their Thieves household products that really started to get my attention. Plant-based, natural and toxin-free. I made sure a handful of Thieves products were part of our family’s initial order with Young Living so I could put them to the test.

And put them to the test we have. Once I made our all-purpose house cleaner I told the family that they were to only use that for the next while so we can see how it stacks up. I would wipe down countertops after mealtime and love the smell of it. My kids cleaned the bathrooms and I loved the peace of mind knowing that even our youngest could help because I didn’t need to worry about him coming in contact with any harsh chemicals. My husband even proclaimed that he is a believer after seeing how it tackled grease after a big weekend breakfast. Safe, clean and the most surprising part? So incredibly affordable. Let me explain.

This bottle of Thieves cleaner costs us $22.50 wholesale ($29 otherwise). It is highly concentrated so you have to dilute it. To make an all-purpose cleaning spray for your home you simply use one capful of the Thieves solution with 16 ounces of water. So this means that with this one bottle of cleaner I am able to make 30 spray bottles. THIRTY spray bottles. That is less than $1.00 per bottle!

I am over here like, how am I JUST now finding out about this?! You can imagine how wonderful it was for my skepticism about it being that inexpensive and actually working being met with the fact that it completely and totally works. My home gets cleaned just as well as it did before, the cleaning solution leaves behind a wonderful scent and it all happens without the use of harsh toxins and chemicals disrupting our insides. Consider me the happiest woman ever.

So then I did some digging and found out how to create a glass cleaner by also adding in vinegar and next on my list is to figure out the perfect shower scrub. But for now, this one does all the things!

And yes, of course, I had to make my own labels to make things look good around here. I simply purchased amber glass spray bottles from Amazon (a pack of two is less than $10) as well as water-proof sticker paper. If you want the exact same products, you can find them using my affiliate links right here. And of course, I have to share a FREE download for you! Grab my all-purpose and glass cleaner labels for yourself right here.

If you are interested in making this for yourself and want the recipe, here is what you need for both the all-purpose cleaner as well as the window and glass spray:

Thieves All-Purpose Cleaner:

  • add one capful of Thieves concentrated cleaning solution to spray bottle
  • add 16 oz of water
  • optional: add 3 drops of essential oil (you can even add different ones for specific seasons of the year – spiced orange for fall!)

Thieves Glass & Window Cleaner:

  • add one capful of Thieves concentrated cleaning solution spray bottle
  • add 1 tsp. of vinegar
  • optional: add 3 drops of essential oil (I use lemon)
  • add 16 oz. of water

So, thankfully, the Thieves line of products is how we are making our home safer with non-toxic cleaning solutions. If you haven’t yet tried out the Thieves home product line from Young Living, you can shop my favorite home products right here. After you checkout, make sure and send me a message so I can send you a thank you gift and give you a proper welcome!

And next up at our house? All of our personal care and beauty products! It’s going to be a big task.

Have you tackled cleaner products in this area? Any tips or advice or products you have loved?
