From the crisp in the air and leaves crunching beneath our feet, to the festive neighborhood and the laughter of little ones. I have to say, Halloween this year was a breath of fresh air. Not to mention, everything in the holiday months seems more magical living in Franklin, Tennessee. Perhaps it’s because the landscape now coincides with the current season and everything looks as we have always seen it in the movies. I don’t know, but it’s truly incredible. Anyway, I thought I would share our family’s Halloween recap!

You know, this blog originally began years and years ago as a journal. And I think it’s easy to fall trap to thinking it has to be done a certain way when you blog full time. It’s about the content and the resources and the tutorials. And while I know you value that, I also think there is value in sharing behind the scenes. In sharing pieces of our story. I mean, do teach this after all in the DTE series, but more than that, I hope it makes you feel like part of our family. Thanks for being here, as always. 

And what would a holiday be with me if we didn’t take some festive portraits, you know?! Wink!

This girl… never takes anything seriously and hates attention!

Y’all… I can’t. That face? This is why he gets anything he wants!

Don’t wanna be tooting my own horn, but for a mild and last-minute family costume, I think we did pretty good! My goal this year was to be practical. Aside from the face masks, everything else can be worn again and used in these colder months. As a large family with five kids to outfit? That’s a win for sure! And this was the first time the kids wanted to dress up together, can you believe it? I warned them that they have now created a monster because I am already planning for next year – ha!

These are the moments, y’all. I just know that I will pull this photograph out decades from now and my heart will ache. These moments are everything. So simple, yet everything all at the same time. Document them. Preserve them. Remember them. And seriously… can you tell that Brooks now understands the concept of Halloween and all of the sugary loot he is about to get?!

Since we are still living in our temporary (humble and sweet) apartment we drive out to one of the best neighborhoods in Franklin to enjoy the festivities. And it did not disappoint, even in 2020. It was wonderful to see families enjoying themselves and kids being kids.
