This time of year is refreshing and renewing. Everything is blooming and the color is springing back into existence. But it can also mean that all of that can wreak some havoc on us. We have a few in our home who deal with this so I wanted to share all about seasonal support using essential oils. Three essential oils to be exact. So if your house also suffers a bit when the seasons change, I hope you find today’s Wellness Wednesday post helpful!
When we lived in the desert, the change of seasons always affected me. Those were also the days that I would pop anything over the counter to deal with any symptoms I was feeling. Fast forward a bit and we are much more intentional these days.
*Just a PSA before I dive into everything. I only strongly advise against any store-bought oils from your local big-box store or Amazon. Especially when we talk about applying these oils to the skin. Safety always, okay?
There are three oils I always turn to when the seasons change and those are: Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint.
Lemon works as a natural antihistamine which is exactly what we want when combatting seasonal allergy symptoms. The reaction our body has this time of year is an inflammatory response. So a natural antihistamine would help to calm inflammation. Lemon also helps with lymphatic system (part of our immune system) drainage, relieves excess mucus, and helps alleviate respiratory conditions.
You can find out many more ways I use lemon essential oil in my home right here (some of them are going to surprise you!).
Lemon is also one that I turn to almost daily for its disinfectant and cleaning properties. Not to mention, diffusing it brings a beautifully fresh scent to the house.
This oil is what we lovingly refer to as our “Swiss Army Knife” oil. Lavender is another one that works as a natural antihistamine. It possesses strong anti-inflammatory properties that help to treat and relieve most allergic reactions. I will apply it topically to skin rashes and also use it to alleviate headaches.
With the calming effect that it has, we utilize it a lot for sleep. I also love adding a few drops to our dryer balls to add a natural fragrance when laundering bedding.
Peppermint has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. These come in handy when everything flares up at the change of a season. Peppermint oil helps to open the airways, improve breathing and ease congestion.
Using a 10ml roller bottle, I will add 20 drops of each oil and then top it off with fractionated coconut oil to dilute. This makes a handy tool for when someone is needing some relief. Because of the citrus in the lemon and for safety in regards to phototoxicity, I simply apply it to the bottoms of feet, back of necks, and chests at night.
Diffusing all three of these oils together creates the perfect blend to combat seasonal symptoms. I like to run it in our main living space throughout the day. In the evenings, I will add all three oils into each diffuser in each bedroom to help with symptoms while also promoting good sleep for everyone.
If I have a little one struggling, I will add a drop or two of each oil into the palm of my hand, add some fractionated coconut oil to dilute, and then apply directly to their chest. Helps with the congestion and supports their respiratory function.

There are a few additional oils I will pull for help in this area, but these three are basic and get the job done in a big way. So they are a great way to start if you are new to essential oils. If you have any questions or if I can help in any way, don’t hesitate to drop a comment below!
