There’s nothing quite like a small town during the holiday season. Franklin makes me weak in the knees when the leaves start to change color and everything gets a little cozier. Okay, to be fair, this town always makes me weak in the knees – wink! If you ever find yourself this way I wanted to share six things to enjoy during fall in Franklin, Tennessee. These are family-friendly activities that our family enjoys each year and that will allow you to take in the fall ambiance and that small-town charm!
Every October the entire town (plus a few thousand more) descend on our quaint little Main Street to enjoy Pumpkinfest. So many street vendors, artisans, live music, and good food to enjoy just before Halloween. We always comment that it feels like Disneyland’s Main Street with all of the festive fun. And don’t worry, there are plenty of styled spots for photo ops!
If you are looking to visit a pumpkin patch while visiting Franklin, Tennessee in the fall then let it be Gentry’s Farm. Our family couldn’t believe all there was to do for the afternoon!
We took the wagon ride through the property to see the historic and original buildings to the farm. We also were able to get up close and see all of the newborn calves.
There is so much to explore and the kids loved all of the hands-on activities there were.
From three different mazes (munchkin maze, a labyrinth, and the classic corn maze) to putt-putt golf and old school fair games. An ongoing family tradition for sure!
To get the best view of Franklin, Tennessee, be sure and take a drive up to the double arch bridge (at milepost 438). It is such a stunning scene and a beautiful drive through the Natchez Trace.
Every Saturday morning you can find all of the local farmers, vendors, and artisans gathered together at the Factory in Franklin for Franklin’s Farmers Market (held outside in the back). The fall season brings giant mums, truckloads of all the different pumpkin varieties, and of course, all of the hearty and cold-weather produce for the best pot roasts and chili recipes.
And after you shop the fresh goods, be sure and make your way into The Factory. Shops and eateries to discover from breakfast tacos at Mojo’s to Fork of the South.
Of course, you have to find time to stroll down Franklin’s Main Street and take in all of the great shopping and eateries. There is such a Hallmark feel to it and our family has a few favorite spots to enjoy.
For shops, you have to be sure and step into White’s Mercantile and Tin Cottage. Both are your quintessential small-town shops filled with treasures. I also love Vinnie Louise for some wardrobe additions and City Farmhouse and Storehouse No.9 for antiques and home decor.
For eating, enjoy 55 South, Gray’s, and Biscuit Love (just to name a few) for great local food and that small-town vibe. For something sweet, step into Kilwin’s and Triple Crown Bakery.
Surrounding Franklin’s Main Street is all of the historic neighborhood streets. And in the fall, it is absolutely perfect. Whether on foot or just in your car, it is so fun to take it all in. From the leaves crunching beneath your feet to the quaint cottages and old colonials. And if you happen to be in town for Halloween, be sure and hit the Five Points neighborhood. It is quite the scene!
