I’m a huge fan of normalizing smaller homes, spaces that aren’t expansive, and embracing the character of a home. When I envision the home that we are currently searching for, I don’t think about the square footage much. I think about what can be done within the square footage that is already there. I think about those unique bits of character that truly make a home feel like home. I am gathering so much inspiration these days and I thought maybe you would love a peek into 10 small space design ideas that inspire. These get me really excited to keep working on making our temporary space feel even more like home while we are in a season of waiting. Keep scrolling to enjoy!
This first one is one that I love! The Morrow House is an Airbnb rental in Waco, Texas. They did such an incredible job with this home. The dining room specifically, is very narrow, with gorgeous tall ceilings. I love how they approached this space! So much character squeezed into one small and simple, but yet very beautiful dining room!

This bedroom is so quaint and cozy. It is one from Nesting with Grace and they did an incredible job with their small Connecticut home. Loads of inspiration for what one can do with a small space and the character that can be infused throughout. Every corner is intentionally approached and the added layers, textures, and colors exude home comforts.

A simple and small living space, but a wonderful example of how cozy you can make it even without a lot of room. And if you know me, you know I love the neutrals in this one!

I’m a sucker for built-ins and they are wonderful to utilize in a smaller space. This is such a cozy corner and I love the way they played with different colors.

Again with the built-ins! While we don’t have the luxury of making huge modifications in our rental right now, I absolutely will take advantage of every nook and cranny in our future home. I love that this window became a sitting area to curl up with a good book. No space wasted to add functionality and character!

A more modern overall style, but I loved the layout of this apartment living space. It goes to show that you can have comfortable seating even when you are tight on space. It’s all about finding the right pieces to accommodate. And those neutrals have my heart – wink!

I have drooled over this specific space for years now. This one oozes quirky character and I love how filled in it is. In my older age, I am valuing spaces that look and feel lived in – spaces that truly exude the essence of home and don’t look like a museum showpiece. So wonderfully done!

Even though this bedroom doesn’t have a lot of space, I adore how they used whites to make it feel more expansive without losing the cozy cottage feel. And even with the older walls too! A perfect space that oozes character and charm.

This one is such a beautiful nursery design. A small room, but with the help of that tall window and the floor-to-ceiling wallpaper, it feels light and airy while not losing any of the cozy charm.

This last one is darling. I love the layers and the textures. Makes you want to curl up next to a good fire for an evening!
