There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a home filled with good, wholesome books and little ones reading. I have come to cherish it more and more in motherhood as the years have gone on. One thing I have loved to do is create seasonal collections for our kids. This especially became more of a goal when we started home educating. I love how beautifully it works with the unit studies we are working on as well as arts and crafts we have prepared to move through the seasons each year. I have gathered up a list of our favorite fall books for the family library as we transition into the month of September.

Wholesome and quality reads only

One thing I strive to make sure of is that the books we add to our family library are wholesome and quality content. I’m amazed at some of the books and titles I see within the children’s section these days. And I realize that may make me sound like a crotchety old lady, but if I see one more book title with the word “fart”, “butt”, or “underwear” in it I am going to scream. Not to mention some children’s books are so poorly written and I’m not sure how they even make it on the shelf. But I digress…

When selecting new children’s books for our collection, I love finding those that inspire deeper conversation with the kids as we are reading. Ones that get their wheels turning and where we can apply it to our life in some way. I also love artwork that is inspiring and makes their eyes light up. Anything to fill their minds with light, positivity, and wholesome goodness.

Changing books out seasonally

One thing that I learned in working to make sure kids are reading is to ensure the books are accessible to little ones. After so many times of all of the books getting pulled out of the bookshelf to find a book, I learned to create a more accessible spot for a small collection of books. This allows me to pull books for the current season which aligns with their home studies better and also makes them easier to reach. 

I simply purchased a large basket and have it sitting in our living room in the corner. After implementing this, I have noticed how much more reading was happening! Not to mention it adds to the excitement of each season.

And with fall around the corner, I couldn’t wait to pull out our favorite books to switch things up. I live for the cozier nights coming up and wrapping up in a blanket with a few little ones to enjoy a nighttime story is heaven on earth.
