As you know, our family has been working at learning to make more and more foods from scratch. We’ve tackled all sorts of bread recipes (you can enjoy my honey wheat bread here), homemade tortillas, and more. The idea behind this is to not only continue cutting out the processed foods and unhealthy ingredients but also to be more self-sufficient. Today, I wanted to share with you my four-ingredient southern drop biscuits. While there are multiple ways to do biscuits, I love having a recipe specific for those mornings that there is not a lot of time, but still allows you to pull off a delicious homemade option to enjoy. And seriously… who can resist a hot biscuit with honey? Am I right?
First, preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Grab yourself a mixing bowl and add in all of your dry ingredients.
You will simply add 2 cups of flour to your bowl
You will add 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 3 tsp of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Make sure and give your dry ingredients a quick whisk to combine everything.
Next, you will be adding in your cold butter. You will simply cut it into your dry ingredients and then use a pastry blender or fork to blend. You should end up with a sand-like mixture.
Next, you will add in your cup of milk and mix it together. You do not want the consistency to be too wet, so if it is simply add a tablespoon of flour at a time until it is thicker and stickier.
Now, adding a sprinkle of pepper is optional, but I feel like it gives the biscuits just a bit of flavor.
You will then want to line a baking sheet with parchment paper and drop your biscuits on to it. The amount of biscuits depends on how big or small you like them. I usually am able to get about a dozen biscuits with this recipe.
Then you simply want to pop them into your oven at 450 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
So delicious, so fluffy, and so easy to make your own homemade biscuits! I prefer honey on a hot biscuit, but my kids love these with strawberry jam as well!
On the weekends, I will simply double this batch with the whole family home, but even during the week, it only takes me a few minutes to whip these up for the kids to enjoy.
