Previously, I have shared how we ditched all of our old household cleaners. I have also shared about our Thieves laundry soap and how I even make our own bleach. I figured I now need to share how to get stains out without using harsh chemicals. We are up against a lot in our home with five kids and having a solid solution for this area has been a huge help!
Chemicals used in conventional household cleaning products account for indoor air pollution that is 2 to 5 (and sometimes upwards of 100) times worse than the air outside. Not to mention that with over 80,000 chemical compounds out in the market, only 1,498 have been reviewed as of 2018. These are two of probably over a thousand reasons we started reducing our toxin load. We are inundated with them these days, but yet we wonder why everyone deals with chronic illness.
From household cleaners to personal care products, we have continued to chip away at bringing better options into our home. And I have truly loved seeing the changes this effort has brought. When people ask what area I think has made the biggest difference or which one is best to start with, I always blame the laundry room. Not only were the products we bought off the store shelf filled with junk, but those ingredients then coat our clothes which then means we are wearing them all day. So if you have been wanting to start reducing your family’s toxin load, head to the laundry room!
To make a Thieves stain stick, I simply combine one part Thieves Household Cleaner and one part Thieves Dish Soap in a bottle. You can shop both of them along with a few of my other favorite clean products for the home right here.
You can use any container you prefer. I found this 3-pack of larger glass roller bottles on Amazon and I love that the roller top helps to agitate the spot or stain I am working on which helps the process. The entire Thieves line is plant-based which I love and trust bringing into my home. The ingredients don’t have me coughing and gagging while working with them which is a welcome change.
I have used this stain stick on clothing, upholstered furniture, and definitely rugs with awesome outcomes! Unfortunately, I didn’t think ahead when filming the video for this to take a before and after shot of my son’s t-shirt so please accept these scree grabs as a temporary point of proof – ha! Thankfully I have shared this baby in action on my Instagram stories so click here to see some great before and after of what it can do!
And of course, I didn’t want to leave you without the label I made for my own bottles. You can download the free printable right here!
A pretty easy approach for getting stains out without using harsh chemicals. I hope you find this one helpful – if you have any questions, feel free to drop them below!
