My dearest Blair, 

A decade with literal sunshine and all I can say is it is going by much too fast. As I lay in bed this morning, running through the past ten years, I was brought all the way back to when you were in my belly. It was really early in the morning, light peering through the shutters onto my face where I lay on the couch. I had fallen asleep there the night before after tossing and turning in bed unable to get comfortable (this is completely normal for one who is 38 weeks pregnant in the middle of summer in the Arizona desert). We had just had an appointment with the doctor the day before where he informed us that you were in fact right side up. We left his office with the plan to give you a week to flip on your own, but if not he would do it at our next appointment. 

I remember lying there wondering what that scenario would entail when all of a sudden the most excruciating pain and violent movement came from my belly. It was over in less than a second but left me out of breath and panic-stricken for a moment. I placed my elbow underneath me, sitting up slightly, and my other hand on my stomach to feel for movement. An instant kick followed by a full stretch and I let out a sigh of relief. I then chuckled out loud realizing that you had taken care of the situation yourself. And that was that. You were ready.

Blair, you have never once wavered in your tenacity, your confidence, and your determination to do things on your own and in your own way ever since. Whether it’s learning to ride a bike or yes, even preparing to arrive Earthside, you bring the most vivacious and joyful energy to everything you do. 

I have watched in awe these last two years specifically as you have shown maturity and intelligence far beyond your years. Where most would crumble, you have stood tall and confident. Your resiliency in trials is a strength, your joy amidst them? A true gift.

Thank you for blessing us with the sweetest ray of light these past ten years. We are all better because of you.
