It goes without saying – 2020 will forever be the year that blindsided us – both on the personal front as well as professional. Okay, about that heart to heart…

I wish I could say I was one of the business owners that didn’t lose stride, but I lost it many times since this past spring. Whether it was projects delayed because of pinches in shipping or third-party businesses dealing with their own hiccups or even trying to keep up the mental stamina to work through every roadblock that reared its ugly head. This year has been hard. It’s OK to say that. Give yourself grace, friend. We all deserve that much. 

While I wish there was more ground gained over the past 11 months, there were still many bright sides to the year. A surprising thought, right? One of them was the increased time I had to just be, to not be chasing after the next launch, deadline, or project. As I mentioned, some of it was out of my control and some of it I had to just set aside for sanity’s sake. And do you want to know another bright side to 2020?

The absolutely beautiful and solidifying belief that building our dreams is not something we should wait on. Not now, not ever.

Kara, what are you talking about? With all of the unknown, this is not the time! Did I assume right? Are those the thoughts running through your head right now? Friend, days like this are the exact time you should be pushing forward and making things happen for yourself. For your stability. For your independence. For your future. Because it matters.

Did you know that in the 2007-2009 recession, some of the biggest companies we know today were started? Yep. Uber, DropBox, AirBnb, Square… oh. And one called Pinterest. Maybe you have heard of it – wink! The Wall Street Journal recently reported that new business applications for employer identification numbers have surpassed 3.2 million this year alone. Last year at the same time? 2.7 million. That’s got to spark a fire in you, right?

And if there is one thing I know without a doubt that I am walking away from 2020 with it’s this…

If we are not going after everything we want with wild abandon. If we are not loving deeply and taking every moment possible to live, to really live. And to drench ourselves in the joy of this life… then what are we even doing?

Ending 2020 with the most beautiful bang

This year was supposed to be the year that I finally announced a printed planner created and shipped to everyone who purchased one. A beautiful and tangible tool, complete with gold coil and linen cover, that would replace the printable and digital version I have offered for the past three years. A tool that has grown and improved alongside my own career and that has helped countless other bloggers in theirs. So you can imagine my disappointment when those plans became bleaker and bleaker as inevitable production delays were announced and shipping times and dates could not be promised. 2020 strikes again, am I right?

Luckily, I’m a hard-headed mule of a woman and decided that we simply needed to pivot. Because there are business owners, there are creators, there are dreamers and doers that need this tool so they can have their most successful year in 2021. So YOU can have your most successful year. And I think the best thing we can do is to end 2020 with a bang. Let it be our anthem, our battle cry. That the world needs what we have to offer. And there is no time like the present to get our hands dirty in cultivating the life we envision for ourselves and our families. And that no matter what, dreams and big ideas matter.

However, sales were never my thing and I find neon lights to be a bit tacky.
